When Julian Montague rolls into a small mill town on the back side of nowhere, he isn’t looking for any trouble. He’s broke and fallen on hard times—but his idea to run from a license check on a main highway has backfired. He went off road on his motorcycle and now he’s hopelessly lost and almost out of gas. Stopping at the only station in town, he's confronted by bullies with a gun who insist he’s on the “wrong side of the line” and then proceed to attack him. Fighting them off, he heads for the dubious safety of the “other side” when he’s attacked by a wild animal and crashes, almost killing himself. Waking up tied to a bed, he's startled to find his injuries are being tended by a large, handsome man named Leo who bosses him around, showers him with affection and insists on calling him kitty. Something is going on in this strange town called Hell’s Creek, involving the large paper mill and the strange inhabitants who live in separate territories and answer only to the Company. Julian needs to find out what it is before he finds himself the “mate” of another man—and the main problem with that is that he’s beginning to like the idea way too much.

I loved how Julian assumed that everyone in Hell's Creek was delusional; it made for some delightfully frustrated shifters, especially Leo, as they tried to help him understand what was going on. I found Julian and Leo's relationship to be so much fun as Julian stuggled to admit that he was attracted to someone that he thought was absolutely insane.Product details

The sample led me to believe I was getting a romantic adventure, but no. This is a long rape fantasy, without a lot else going on. This is the kind of nonconsent I hate the most; the plot pretends it isn't rape. It just is. If you want s/m, just be honest with yourself. And the real safe word is no.
Very rushed, Telling not showing.Won't bother with anymore.
Everyone has there own threshold of what they are comfortable with, it is the questionable consent lately in these author's books that have me on the rail. No, does not mean yes.
As for Leo, he loves his mate and wants to give him something he never had which was love.
Julian was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I really loved this book. I loved both Leo and Julian as the main characters. I really liked how this was a whole new spin on the shifter genre. My biggest complaint about the story was I thought the ending was a bit rushed. I'm also thinking that there will be more to this series, because you are left with some unanswered questions. It wasn't perfect by any means, but I really enjoyed it and really hope to read more in this series.
Absolutely adore this new shifter series! The different twist of how they became shifters is brilliant!
Julian is down on his luck and finds himself at the wrong place unknowingly. Leo finds what he never thought he would have in his life and he will fight to keep it. With the help of his pride, can he make this unruly kitten break down his defenses?
Smoking hot sex scenes and a great first installment! Cannot wait to see what book 2 bring us!
Such a story with interesting characters and am hopeful another book comes out to read more about the people in the town and how they deal with the new issues opening up and their involements
This is typical Shannon West fare and since I like West's work, I really enjoyed this one. She is one of the few writers where I really enjoy reading a good alphahole. She does them so well. ) I'm looking forward to seeing how this series develops.
